When we started
this agency
in 1999
we called it Nemo, inspired by the latin translation: “No One”.
Our vision was a place where ideas and great work are what matter most, and we could collaborate and create in the spirit of collective progression.
As sincere and authentic as we were about this, we realize that vision has significant blind spots. We were naïve to think the same optimistic opportunities are true for everyone.
As such, we’re committing to changing the way we work. We’ll continue to dedicate time and dollars to supporting good in the world, but are focusing on a few key areas to increase attention where we’re weak.
Our actions
include:
Education
We will educate and train everyone on our staff with professional instructors to understand our unconscious bias. We will reshape our agency to ensure diversity, equality and inclusion for all.
Operations
We will audit every dollar we spend on anything to operate our business and look for ways to support BIPOC-owned small businesses and operators. Our vision is to spend 30% of our operating costs with BIPOC-owned businesses, goods and services by 2023.
Direct Impact
We realize we need to help create the change at the start. We’re committing time and opportunities for new voices to enter this field by partnering with accredited grassroots organizations, providing internships, community outreach and events to bring more diversity, energy and love into our company, our industry, and the world.
